| This series of four poles sets up different ways for the public to relate and react to the poles as free, public loci for communication. Two of the poles explore this through figureheads of popular cultureSuperman and Dorothythat receive instant and constant recognition by the many. The other two poles, Princess Leia and a massive syringe, were created on-site during April and May. The intention of Series Three was to explore the methods and contents of aesthetic judgments placed on a politically-charged set of objects (posters and poles) whose ubiquity, transience and public-ness are not considered beautiful and/or worth the attribution of meaning. Series Three has paved the way for Series Four, the creation of 6-8 images on poles in neighborhoods across the city. |
